While completing my MD/MBA dual-degree program, I imagined a web-based, community-driven resource for physicians and medical students interested in the business aspects of health care. That idea evolved into the Association for the Advancement of Physician Business Education (AAPBE), a nonprofit educational organization whose mission is to advance business and management knowledge among physicians and medical students. We provide a forum to network, interact and collaborate with those who share similar interests. We hope to foster a lively discussion on important issues in health care delivery and personal financial management. By effectively leveraging social networks, we plan to disseminate our message and build our community. Ultimately, we hope to improve the quality of health care and reduce unnecessary costs by educating current and future physicians on business and management topics that affect the practice environment. To support this aim, we provide many resources for those interested in pursuing formal education in business, management and administration. We believe that inspiring and motivating the next generation of health care leaders will usher in a new era in medicine.
